ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A treatment center in east Albuquerque may have to move after neighbors fought to have its permit to operate revoked, and won. Empower Health Services has been in a fight with neighbors and the City of Albuquerque over whether they should keep their conditional use permit to operate a residential facility where people stay while receiving treatment. Neighbors argued that the overnight shelter is a nuisance to businesses and residents, while Empower said that they’ve been victims of an unfair process.
After a conditional use approval was revoked for Empower Health Services, their cofounder Max Juarez said, “It’s really disheartening to see that, we really had to work extra hard to provide the data, and show that this program really is a need and it’s benefiting the patients and the community.”…
