Tiny but mighty: Globitos take over Los Ranchos for second year in a row

LOS RANCHOS, N.M. — Every year during Balloon Fiesta, the massive hot air balloons take center stage for nine days. But on Monday, the focus was on much smaller ones. They’re called “globitos.”

For the second year in a row, dozens of globitos lined Fourth Streetin Los Ranchos as the village held its second annual Globito Glow in the Village Monday.

Most people in New Mexico know you add “ito” to anything and it’s cute and tiny but globitos are larger than you’d think. The average one is about 20 to 30 feet tall. It’s small in comparison to a regular hot air balloon that averages 70 to 80 feet in height…
