CYFD employee charged with keeping CYFD runaways at his home

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A former New Mexico Children, Youth, and Families Department employee is facing numerous charges after New Mexico State Police accused him of spoking pot and housing youth under the supervision of the department at his home. Pedro Martinez was arrested last week after a co-worker called State Police saying he found messages from four runaways on his smartwatch.

During their investigation, they found a 16-year-old and 14-year-old brother had stayed with Martinez on and off since September of last year. Both juveniles told officers Martinez would smoke weed with them but said he didn’t do anything inappropriate with them.

Martinez is facing two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of interference with protective custody. A CYFD spokesperson told News 13 that Martinez is no longer an employee with the department.
