Albuquerque man who pled guilty in killing sentenced to 22 years in prison

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter for a stabbing death in 2022 will spend more than two decades behind bars. Matthew Stevens admitted to stabbing and killing Randy Heider at the Extended Stay Hotel on Menaul in December 2022.

After being arrested, Martinez told the Albuquerque Police Department that he and Heider got into a fight and he stabbed him in self-defense. He pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence back in September. Judge David Murphy sentenced Martinez to 22 years behind bars followed by 18 months of supervised probation.
