ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The plan to build a New Mexico United soccer stadium at Balloon Fiesta Park is moving forward, but neighbors are continuing their fight against it.
Multiple neighborhood associations have submitted an appeal to the Albuquerque City Council opposing the city’s plans.
“It’s not in their backyard. They don’t know what happens out here, and they don’t care,” said Pat Hauser, Vice President of the Maria Diers Neighborhood Association.

When the city first announced a proposal for a soccer stadium, built and paid for by New Mexico United, at Balloon Fiesta Park last year, it didn’t make everyone happy. A handful of neighborhood associations quickly voiced their concerns.
“The traffic problems that is causes, the interruptions to our lives, the disruption of our livestock and of our pets, when the fireworks go off and all the noise starts,” said Hauser.
