State wants BCSO deputy held until trial for assault

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Prosecutors want to keep Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Borrecco, accused of pointing a gun at two men while drunk, locked up until trial. Borrecco is facing aggravated assault charges after court documents said he pulled a gun on the men outside a Circle K on Osunda last Wednesday. He was off-duty at the time.

Authorities said Borrecco believed the men were up to no good and told them “I’m going to take your souls.” Prosecutors filed a pretrial detention motion against Borrecco saying the responding officers smelled alcohol on him and found empty alcohol bottles and a gun in his car.

They argue Borrecco used his position to assault the men without cause and “he cannot be trusted with a firearm and a badge office as he has grossly mistaken what his duty is all about.” A hearing on the motion is set for Wednesday.
