The incident began when a license plate reader flagged a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Wyoming and Central, triggering a swift response from the New Mexico State Police. Albuquerque police alerted to the stolen car’s presence at a McDonald’s restaurant nearby, attempted to apprehend Crespin, who instead chose to evade law enforcement.

The pursuit escalated as Crespin brazenly ran red lights and ignored stop signs, prompting a police helicopter to join the chase, monitoring the suspect’s movements from the skies. Bernalillo County deputies were also dispatched to assist ground units.

An arrest warrant affidavit filed in Metropolitan Court revealed that an officer managed to close in on Crespin’s vehicle on N.M. 337 in the East Mountains. The officer recognized Crespin, having personally arrested him in October of the previous year. Despite the officer’s attempt to apprehend him, Crespin managed to escape while driving through oncoming traffic.
