Man sentenced for crash that killed Albuquerque mother

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Jose Ortiz-Munoz, who pleaded no contest to homicide by vehicle, was sentenced to three years behind bars.

According to a criminal complaint, in 2020 Ortiz-Munoz ran a red light near Unser and Tower in Albuquerque and hit Erika Chavez’s car, killing her. Investigators say he was going around 80 mph when he ran the red light. Judge Bruce Fox sentenced Ortiz-Munoz to three years behind bars.
