While the University of Washington football program lately has been sending a lot of personnel to Alabama, it recently entertained a running back who originally hails from that state.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who played this past season at New Mexico but is from Montgomery, Alabama, posted photos of his UW visit this past week, of him wearing a Husky uniform.
The 5-foot-11, 204-pound Croskey-Merritt, or just Merritt — for that matter, he answers to the first name of “Bill” — comes off a productive season in Albuquerque in which he rushed 189 times for 1,190 yards and 17 touchdowns for a 4-8 team, earning second-team All-Mountain West honors.
Merritt enjoyed a breakout year after going virtually unrecruited out of high school and then having four somewhat unremarkable seasons at Alabama State. His best campaign for the FCS team was a 526-yard, 4-TD output in 2022.
“I ended up staying home, just keeping my head down and kept working for whatever came,” Merritt told the Albuquerque Journal.
