Suspect in shootings at Democratic leaders’ homes takes plea deal

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – One of the men involved in the shootings at Democratic leaders’ homes has admitted to pulling the trigger. The shootings all happened within a couple of months after the 2022 election at the homes of County Commissioners Adrian Barboa and Debbie O’Malley, Representative Javier Martinez, and state Senator Linda Lopez.

In a plea agreement, Demetrio Trujillo says failed statehouse candidate Solomon Pena paid him to shoot at three of the homes. Trujillo went on to say that Pena chose those victims because they were election officials or candidates for office.

He pled guilty to the shootings as well as conspiracy and election interference. He could face up to life in prison. Trujillo’s son, Jose Trujillo , was also part of the conspiracy and also took a plea deal.
