Shooting at motorcycle rally kills 3, wound 5 in New Mexico

A shooting at an annual motorcycle rally in a New Mexico town late Saturday afternoon left three people dead and five others wounded.

Red River Mayor Linda Calhoun confirmed in a video posted on Facebook that the incident occurred around 5 p.m., resulting in three fatalities. Five victims were transported to hospitals in Denver, Albuquerque, and nearby Taos.

The 41st annual Red River Memorial Motorcycle Rally had attracted around 20,000 bikers to the town, according to Calhoun.

The violence took place between two retail stores and involved members of motorcycle gangs, Mayor Calhoun revealed, adding that all the shooters had been apprehended, and there was no longer a threat to the community.

Initially, the New Mexico State Police had reported on Twitter that two people had been killed and six wounded in the shooting.

Most of Main Street in Red River, where the incident occurred, was closed to the public as law enforcement conducted their investigation. Authorities also requested that businesses in the area remain closed on Sunday.
