Local vendors look to ABQ International Sunport for business opportunities

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – City leaders are introducing a new program that looks to help small businesses in Albuquerque. It’s a way to get their products in front of thousands of new customers at one of the city’s busiest places: the Albuquerque International Sunport.

On Saturday, business owners got an idea of what the program consists of and how it can improve their brand.

“This is a great way to kind of get your foot in the door,” said Katie Sacoman, a potential vendor who attended the Saturday event. “I think I’m really interested in the program at this point just from what I heard from today.”

The program is called “Ascend ABQ” and has some local businesses optimistic about what it can offer. Through the program, the city will cover several up-front costs, like building the kiosks where vendors would display their products. They will also only offer short-term lease periods, ranging from three months to a year, and want to focus on businesses that do not have a physical location.
