4 WWII chaplains honored by American Legion

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – The American Legion and members of the community gathered on Sunday to honor the four lives lost on the U.S. Army transport Dorchester during World War II.

Early on February 3, 1943, a German torpedo hit the ship in the North Atlantic, which was carrying more than 900 people, including officers, Navy Guards, and civilian workers.

Four chaplains, John P. Washington, Alexander D. Goode, George L. Fox, and Clarke V. Poling, selflessly gave up their life jackets to save more lives.
