Man sentenced for raping, stabbing elderly woman

In Albuquerque, New Mexico, a man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the 2022 sexual assault and stabbing of an elderly woman who was jogging with her dog on a trail.

Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman announced on January 30th that Reginald Hall entered a guilty plea during his trial to multiple charges, including criminal sexual penetration resulting in great bodily harm, criminal sexual penetration with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated battery, and cruelty to animals.

Following the plea, a judge sentenced Hall to 49 years in prison, with 19 years suspended.

The incident occurred on August 19, 2022, around 7:30 a.m., near 2nd Street and Woodward Road Southwest on the Bosque trail. Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a stabbing and found Hall, then 19 years old, pulling a 70-year-old woman into a canal. A witness intervened, capturing photos of Hall before he fled on a scooter.

Responders aided the victim, who suffered multiple stab wounds and injuries from the sexual assault. Meanwhile, witnesses reported a small fire nearby, believed to have been started by Hall. Law enforcement quickly extinguished the flames.
