The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has acknowledged the City of Albuquerque’s Community Energy Efficiency (CEE) Project. The CEE Project, initiated in 2020, provides free energy efficiency services to approximately 800 low-income households in Albuquerque.

The project is a joint initiative between non-profit Prosperity Works, the City of Albuquerque, the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM), and the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority. These partners have collectively funded the program, ensuring its ongoing operation.

Albuquerque District 7 City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn has expressed satisfaction with the project. She revealed that the City Council has allocated $100k annually to the project since it began. This funding has been crucial in helping New Mexicans with limited income who face high energy costs, as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Councilor Fiebelkorn also highlighted the project’s contribution to climate change mitigation. She stated, “This program ensures that our efforts to combat climate change reach our most disadvantaged neighborhoods.” The CEE Project is therefore not only enhancing energy efficiency but also supporting wider environmental objectives.
