It’s been a very active start to this Wednesday across most of the state with rain in lower elevations and snow in higher elevations. Albuquerque even saw some hail this morning, with more isolated showers possible across the state this afternoon and evening. Winds are gusty statewide, up to 25-45 mph. Drier weather will arrive late tonight and into Thursday. Still, snow will likely continue falling over the mountains, with Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories in effect through early Thursday. Over a foot is possible for parts of New Mexico, with 2 feet possible in southern Colorado.

Cooler temperatures will stick around Thursday with highs in the upper 40s. More sunshine is expected Thursday with a brief break in the activity. Winds will be breezy, but not as windy as Wednesday. Another storm will arrive Thursday night into Friday, bringing more snow to north/west New Mexico and some rain farther south. Avalanche Warnings are in effect for Taos’s backcountry and the San Juan Mountains due to heavy snow and strong winds. Snow level will lower into Friday morning as the storm pushes east, bringing the potential for a few flurries in the Albuquerque metro.
