Families, locals celebrate Lunar New Year in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Duke City celebrated its Chinese heritage for the Lunar New Year.

The first day of the Dragon Year kicked off at the Chinese Culture Center on Saturday, where they celebrated their heritage through traditional dragon dances meant to bring rain and good luck.

A Shifu, or skilled person, led the dances and demonstrations.

Local food truck Umami Moto was on hand to handle the hungry crowds.
