ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Police say a drag race ended with a car crashing into an Albuquerque school bus full of kids in February 2022. Mario Perez was charged with 17 counts of abuse of a child because of the students who were injured. Now, his attorneys are asking for his case to be dismissed.
Middle school students were thrown into the air when a school bus was hit by a Mustang near Gibson and Messina in February 2022
The school bus was driving north on Messina when prosecutors said Mario Perez collided with the bus while racing with another vehicle.
Three students were seriously hurt with injuries, including a broken pelvis and head injury.
They claimed, even if the State can prove Perez was street racing, there is no evidence that he saw the bus before the collision.
