New Mexico’s First Ski Area Reopens After Multiple Year Hiatus

Sandia Peak Ski Area is a New Mexico-based ski resort that was out of operation since 2022.

But now, officials of the resort were able to announce, “We are open! Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the fresh snow and for making opening weekend so special!”

In a previous article detailing the situation, Ian Greenwood of POWDER explained that Sandia Peak struggled to remain open during previous seasons because of staffing shortages and weather challenges.

As Sandia Peak Ski Area joined a joint operating venture agreement with Mountain Capital Partners (MCP) , a ski resort management company that manages over a dozen resorts throughout the country, clustered mostly in the Southwest.

Other noteworthy resorts under MCP’s umbrella include Purgatory in Colorado, Brian Head in Utah, and Lee Canyon in Las Vegas.

MCP offers the Power Pass , a ski pass that offers access to multiple resorts across its portfolio, and offers kids under 12 the possibility to ski for free with the Power Kids Pass.
