Two disabled dogs ‘dumped’ in Sandoval County in need of help

SANDOVAL COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Two disabled dogs have come into the care of Cross My Paws Animal Rescue, and now, the rescue and the dogs are looking to the community for help. Bambi and Thumper, two shepherd-mix dogs, were found roaming the streets of Rio Rancho and were brought to the Sandoval County animal shelter on Friday, Feb. 2. They have been transferred to the local rescue Cross My Paws, who will oversee their care until they are adopted.

The dogs are estimated to be about 1-2 years old, and both suffer from front leg deformities. Because the dogs were found in largely healthy condition and their leg deformities would have made living as strays nearly impossible, county representatives say the dogs were likely dumped onto the streets by their previous owner.

Despite their disabilities, Bambi and Thumper are some of the sweetest dogs, according to Director of Community Services Jayme Espinoza. Both dogs have been evaluated by a veterinarian and are expected to live long and happy lives. However, adjustments need to be made so the dogs can move more comfortably and independently.
