Man connected to 2020 Albuquerque robbery turned homicide sentenced

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Another one of the numerous suspects charged in connection to the shooting death of Jeffrey Baca in 2020 was sentenced for the murder Tuesday afternoon. Anthony Lopez pled guilty to second-degree murder, conspiracy, and aggravated burglary for the March 2020 shooting.

Lopez called a group of friends to rob a house near Central and Coal after being kicked out of a party. When the group arrived, shots rang out injuring three people and killing Baca.

Judge Cindy Leos sentenced Lopez to 20 years followed by five years of supervised probation. As for the other suspects, Nathaniel Hernandez was found guilty of first-degree murder for killing Baca and sentenced to life in prison. Nathan Peco and Rudy Orzco were found guilty of aggravated burglary and conspiracy charges, neither has been sentenced. Austin Crespin took a plea admitting to driving the group to the home, he was sentenced to six years behind bars.
