BCSO Sheriff promises change after string of off-duty deputy arrests

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – With another Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputy in hot water for getting arrested off duty, BCSO Sheriff John Allen is promising changes to keep his staff in check and earn back public trust.

Monday morning marked the third time a deputy has been charged with a crime this year alone. On Tuesday, February 13, he said the department has an off-duty “culture” problem. “Extremely disappointed that one of our deputies have once again sullied the badge,” said BCSO Sheriff John Allen.

That deputy now on admin leave is Daniel Vasquez-Moreno arrested early Monday morning for aggravated DWI after a domestic violence call in Rio Rancho and the sheriff says that led to two other off-duty deputies on scene also being placed on leave. “I’m going on 26 years of doing this law enforcement and I’ve never seen a more disappointing couple of videos that what my deputies, how they interacted with law enforcement and what they did at that scene while they were off duty,” said Allen.
