Albuquerque Institute for Mathematics and Science charter school opening new location

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A science and math-focused charter school is expanding with a new location at Central New Mexico Community College’s (CNM) westside campus.

The Albuquerque Institute for Mathematics and Science (AIMS), which educates students in grades six through twelve, places an emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The school has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School and is now expanding.

Currently, the school exists on University of New Mexico property near Isotopes Park. Starting in Fall of 2025, the school will launch a sixth grade class and a ninth grade class on the CNM westside campus. More grades will be added to the west side site in following years, according to CNM.

“We’re excited about this partnership with AIMS because it’s going to expand access to a highly valuable college experience for our youth in Bernalillo County,” CNM President Tracy Hartzler said in a press release. “At CNM, we’re always seeking partnerships like this one that benefit our community and help more young people, as well as adults, access higher education and training opportunities that put them on a path to a good career and a good life. We look forward to welcoming AIMS students, teachers and staff to our Westside Campus in 2025.”
