Albuquerque man receives 15 years for voluntary manslaughter

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man is going to prison for 15 years on voluntary manslaughter charges. Silvester Castillo, 28, pled guilty on July 6, 2023.

Court records state Navajo Nation police officers responded to a home in Torreon, NM on May 31, 2021, regarding a homicide. They found Jane Doe in the front yard of the house lying face up with sweatpants around her ankles and blunt force trauma to her head, face, and body. She was found near a Buick sedan that was running and had heavy damage to the rear bumper.

According to the records, Castillo was found in the home with blood on his hands, pants, and shoes. Doe’s four-year-old daughter told police her mother was dead and that Castillo told her to hide a shovel. She also said she saw Castillo hit Doe with a shovel, remove her clothes, and then run over her face with a car. Doe’s daughter said Castillo told her not to tell anyone. Castillo’s grandmother also witnessed the incident but waited until daylight to walk to a neighbor’s house to help.
