Weird Guinness World Records set in New Mexico

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New Mexico is known for many things – the diverse population, the landscape, the food – and when it comes to world records, the Land of Enchantment puts its stamp on things as well. We’re the home of some well-known world records like the world’s largest matanza (held every year in Belen) and the world’s largest gypsum dune field (White Sands National Park), but what about the first mouse in space? We got that too.

According to the Guinness World Records site, in August of 1950, the first mouse in space flew on a US V-2 rocket that launched from New Mexico. The mouse shot up to an altitude of 137 km, however, the rocket disintegrated and the mouse never made it home.

Back down on earth, Bryce Menzies made the longest pickup truck ramp jump on August 25, 2016, at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe. Menzies’s jump reached 115.64 m (379.4 ft) during the Bryce Menzies New Frontier Powered by Pennzoil Synthetics project.
