Albuquerque police investigating deadly shooting in southeast part of city

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead Monday morning near San Mateo and Zuni.

Police said officers were called to a residence in the 500 block of Ortiz Dr. around 4:15 a.m. Monday to reports of a shooting. The person living at the home allegedly shot an individual who tried to break into the home and reportedly had a knife, police said.

Police arrived on the scene and found one person who was suffering from gunshot wounds. The suspect died from their wounds. APD said they are not planning to press charges against the resident at this time.
