Missing 20-year-old woman found dead 150 feet below Grand Canyon rim, rangers say

A missing 20-year-old woman was found dead 150 feet into the Grand Canyon in Arizona, rangers said.

Leticia A. Castillo’s body was discovered Aug. 6 below the Twin Overlooks viewpoint along Desert View Drive, the National Park Service said in an Aug. 8 news release.

Castillo had been visiting the park from Albuquerque, New Mexico, when she went into the canyon on Aug. 3, park officials said.

She disappeared and search efforts began.

Her body was found and recovered three days later, officials said. Now, the park is investigating her death.

This is the latest recovery as two other people have died in the canyon in the past week.

A 20-year-old college student died July 31 after falling 400 feet into the Grand Canyon, McClatchy News reported.

Then a BASE jumper plunged 500 feet to his death Aug. 1, officials said.
