In 2023, police responded to a call of an armed man in southeast Albuquerque accompanied by three others. Police say three suspects fled the scene, including 18-year-old Isaac Reyes. Police say Reyes pulled a handgun while running from officers, leading to at least one officer firing at him.

Reyes pleaded no contest to attempted aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon. Judge Jennifer Wernersbach sentenced Reyes to 18 months of supervised probation.
