APD retired police horse ‘Max’ dies at 23-years-old

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albquerque Police Department’s retired police horse “Max” has died. APD Police Chief Harold Medina said Max was 23 years old. The department said he served for roughly 20 years and is credited with beginning the careers of many horse-mounted unit officers.

APD said Max was one of their smartest horses and put smiles on thousands of faces. APD’s Mounted Patrol has 12 horses.
