CYFD: 789 truancy referrals amid chronic absenteeism in New Mexico schools

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Video above: Parents received an ‘Attendance Pre-Notification’ letter on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, to address absenteeism for the new school year. The letter below addresses the percentage rate a student falls under if attendance requirements are not met throughout the school year. According to state officials, chronic absenteeism is a growing concern statewide. KOAT reached out to Children Youth and Families Department (CYFD) following chronic absenteeism referrals below.
