The Bernalillo county Commission recognized the Animal Care Services Emergency Response Team. While the South Fork and Salt fires burned, the ACS team set up an emergency animal shelter in the area. “Their efforts went beyond the call of duty, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of animals in crisis and offering solace to owners facing distressing circumstances,” Commissioner Walt Benson said.

The county says the team took in more than 50 displaced animals during the fires.
