UNM Gallup unveils new public art piece

GALLUP, N.M. (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico has a new symbol for harmony on the Gallup campus. The university installed a new statue as part of the state’s Art in Places program. The White Deer of Autumn is a 6-foot-tall bronze sculpture of a cloaked female created by artist Denny Haskew.

The artwork is finished with a patina that has developed to make it look like it was carved from stone. UNM Gallup said the sculpture’s stance and expression are meant to give people a sense of strength and resolve. Students and faculty can see the piece in the courtyard between Gurley Hall and Calvin Hall Center.
