ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The week’s inclement weather didn’t dampen spirits at the Barelas Senior Center where everyone was determined to celebrate past and current veterans. “Starting about two months before, ‘Are we going to have the event?’. This is our 12th year. I said yes we will. And even the last couple days, because of the inclement weather, people said: ‘we are going to have it aren’t we?’ I said, no matter what, we’ll be there. And we hope you’ll be there with us. And they have turned out today,” said Garden Keeper Patrick Turrieta, Barelas Senior Center.

This was the first time in all 12 years of this annual celebration that the event had to be taken indoors. The Department of Senior Affairs was joined by the Camino Real Garden Club to honor veterans.
