NEW MEXICO (KRQE) –Now less than two weeks away from Thanksgiving, it’s time to start preparing for the big feast. From holiday staples to family recipes to local variations, everyone has a different food they enjoy more than the rest. KRQE asked viewers via social media what their favorite Thanksgiving foods were.

According to KRQE viewers, turkey, and stuffing are the two most popular Thanksgiving staples. Some viewers like to add gravy or red chile to their turkey. Many varieties of stuffing were mentioned, including “my grandmother’s sausage, walnut, and apple stuffing” and “jalapeno, bacon, and cornbread stuffing.”

Another common favorite is mashed potatoes. One viewer specified that their favorite Thanksgiving food was “mashed potatoes mixed with corn and red chile… scooped with a roll.” Many viewers top their potatoes with gravy or red chile; others prefer sweet potatoes.

Many Burqueños offer a local spin on Thanksgiving classics by adding red or green chile. Some even prefer leftovers to the day-of meal. “In ABQ, NM, it’s the green Chile Turkey sandwich on a homemade roll after the big feast,” one viewer said.
