Public Arts Program dedicates new sculpture in Albuquerque’s North Valley

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Public Arts Program of Albuquerque dedicated its newest sculpture at the roundabout on Rio Grande Blvd. and Candelaria Rd. “Gliding Flight,” sculpted by Taos pueblo artist Sean “Rising Sun” Flanagan, is dedicated to the wildlife living in the banks of the Rio Grande along Albuquerque’s North Valley.

“I didn’t want it to be a distraction, especially at a roundabout. I didn’t know there was so much controversy with it all. I hope it brings good feelings and good vibes. First of all, when I did the design, I was thinking about the birds, the cranes, and the geese, the ducks that fly, that come in for a landing, and I thought how can I capture that?” said Flanagan.
