ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque police said an officer-involved shooting happened on Sage Rd. just east near Unser on Thursday. Police said the suspect was wanted for murder. Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina said the shooting happened after the man tried to escape when confronted. He said officers tried to use less lethal means to get the man into custody but he ran toward a residential area. “It is extremely dangerous when you have an armed individual who is fleeing from officers armed with a gun trying to get into an residential area. He is doing everything he can to get away from officers,” said Medina.
That person is in custody and was taken to the hospital. Their condition is not known. Officers were not injured.
