ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Old Town Plaza is filled with unique shops showcasing New Mexico. “Over the years, we have gained a real kind of local following,” said store owner John Hoffsis.
There is only one bookstore that puts it first: Treasure House Books and Gifts. “A lot of the bookstores have some local books and local authors, but there wasn’t anybody who was specializing in it, who was actually trying to showcase the local talent that we have and the local history that we have,” said Hoffsis.
It’s a family affair, with Hoffsis’s father owning the building before him. “I’ve been in retail now because I have worked at my father’s store, at my stores, for now over 51 years.” But as years have gone by, Hoffsis says it’s time to close this chapter in his life, and he hopes to retire this summer.

Rightly so, after running the store with only his wife and father before he passed, open six days a week, and hardly any time off. “I think it’s time that I relax and kind of lay back. We do own this building, so we are going to retire, so to speak, hopefully June 1 of this year,” he says…
