CABQ unveils temporary downtown dog park on vacant lot slated for housing

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Albuquerque is getting creative when it comes to using vacant property lots they own. This weekend, they unveiled their brand-new “pop-up dog park” on one of those properties while they wait for the bigger project expected to be there to take shape.

“This is right in the heart of downtown, and this is something the community has wanted,” said Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller. Located at the corner of 2nd St. and Silver, downtown residents now have a new dog park to enjoy with their four-legged friends.

“For everyone who lives in places like apartments and studios with no backyard, and they have a dog, which many of them [have], now they actually have a place to walk their dog,” Mayor Keller added.

The city says the park was created as a way to get use out of a property lot they own but is currently vacant. The park is just a temporary place holder for the lot until the city and developers start constructing what was originally supposed to be a large apartment complex…
