ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque woman will spend 18 years behind bars for killing a 16-year-old boy and trying to make her teenage son take the fall. Then, 16-year-old Angelo Baldonado was charged with shooting and killing Josue Ruiz during a fight in the alley behind Lindy’s Diner. Later, witnesses told police that Baldonado’s mother, Elizabeth Ortiz Chavez, was the one who set up the fight and the one who pulled the trigger, and then set her son up to take the blame.
Mother arrested for murder a year after son was arrested for the same crime
It was an emotional day in court on Thursday as Josue Ruiz’s family and friends described him as a special young man. “He was awesome. He was a clown, loved to laugh, loved his family, was raised with morals and ethics, and had dreams for his life,” said Jennifer Gutierrez, a family friend.
In January, Ortiz Chavez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for Josue Ruiz’s death. Thursday, she was sentenced to 18 years behind bars…
