2025 Run For the Zoo in the books

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Run For the Zoo, the ABQ BioPark’s biggest fundraiser, saw thousands of racers showing their support for the beloved organization. The race coincides with another famous holiday, “May the Fourth Be With You.”

Sunday’s run had a Star Wars theme with races donning a “galaxy” twist, such as the Half-Solo Marathon or the “parsec walk.” But beyond the Star Wars fun, organizers say Run For the Zoo is a massive undertaking.

ABQ BioPark mourns loss of popular gibbon

“We work on Run For the Zoo six months out of the year. We work with a committee of over 20 people, and we have over four hundred volunteers,” says Kent Berry, events director for the New Mexico BioPark Society. “We have over 9,200 runners today, and that’s really amazing because those runners are here supporting our BioPark, our zoo garden, and Botanic Garden. It’s just a beautiful day, everybody is having a lot of fun out here strutting their Run For the Zoo shirt, just having fun.”

All participants were gifted free admission to the zoo, BioPark, and Botanic Gardens. If you didn’t make it out this year, or are on the fence for next year, officials say not to hesitate. Every fitness level is welcome…
