It was just before 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday when AFR received calls about a fire at a pallet yard on Nikanda Rd., which is an industrial area not far from I-25. AFR said they faced water pressure problems that they had to overcome as they fought the flames. AFR has not named the business or who owns the pallet yard.
Firefighters said the flames also spread to nearby properties, sparking vehicles on fire. Neighboring properties include mobile homes and Premiere Distribution, which delivers Budweiser and other beers. There was also damage to commercial equipment. “There’s several commercial vehicles on the property, and most of those explosions were tires on those vehicles. There was also some reports of metal cylinders that were exploding as well. So, more than likely, propane or some sort of compressed gas that was igniting as well,” said Lt. Jason Fejer, Public Information Officer, AFR.
