ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque officials, organizations, and community members came together Friday morning to celebrate Duke City Ambassadors for their dedication to the city. The ambassador program has been around since 2006, working to maintain the city’s downtown and Nob Hill areas.

The initiative also employs residents at the city’s Gateway Shelter network as part of the Better Way Forward program that provides stable job opportunities for unhoused people in the city. “It doesn’t just give jobs, it gives them an opportunity. It gives them an opportunity to move forward, have some self-dignity and some self-worth, and actually create goals to be able to move forward– getting housing, even getting a cell phone, a simple cell phone,” said Deiandara Cole, Program Manager, Duke City Ambassadors.
