ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Monday is National Garbage Men and Women Day and the City of Albuquerque is celebrating the essential duties of Albuquerque’s more than 600 Department of Solid Waste workers. The department takes on various duties beyond collections. They clean cities by picking weeds, they work as code enforcement, and even conduct dispatch operations when needed.

“My favorite part about my job is just making my city look good. Keeping it clean. Going around, helping people out as much as I can. And that’s pretty much it, just making this a bit cleaner and a better city for us and all the people here,” said Jake Benevides, City of Albuquerque Collection Driver.
The city is encouraging residents to celebrate by waving to their collection crews, sharing a word of thanks, or leaving a note of appreciation on their bins ahead of Tuesday’s pickup…
