Friday’s Five Facts
[1] Albuquerque Fire Rescue responds to two fires in bosque near Tingley Beach – AFR is saying two recent fires in the Albuquerque bosque appear to be human-caused. Calls started coming in around 2 p.m. Thursday to report fires near Central and Tingley, on both sides of the river. After getting the fires under control, crews stayed on scene Thursday evening to monitor hot spots. AFR says the two fires are not related, despite being so close together. The department is saying they don’t have any intentions of closing the bosque, but will be increasing patrols.
[2] Rail Runner adding security cameras to trains – Security officials for New Mexico’s commuter train are now able to monitor passengers from a different angle. While the Rail Runner already has security cameras on their platforms, the train line is now adding cameras inside the trains. Officials say it will beam live video feeds from the new cameras to a central security team off-site. If they observe a problem, the monitoring team will contact police to get them to the nearest train station. The cameras should be installed by October.
[3] Hot and breezy with an increased fire threat – The official start to summer is today at 8:42 PM, making it the longest day and shortest night of the year. Heat sticks around all of New Mexico today and Saturday with winds picking up though in northwest New Mexico. A surge of monsoon moisture will start moving into New Mexico Sunday.
