New driving lanes coming to I-25 interchange near Montgomery and Comanche

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – One of Albuquerque’s biggest road projects in decades, the years-long I-25 revamp between Montgomery Blvd. to Comanche Rd. is hitting a new milestone with a big shift next week.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation broke ground on the project last August, but crews said they’re on schedule and ready to shift driving lanes from the inside to the outside. Contractors are done rebuilding the outside lanes on a stretch of the freeway between Candelaria Rd. and near Montgomery Blvd., and they’ve finished a portion of the new bridge over Comanche Rd. With that, crews are getting ready to shift drivers to those new lanes, which will allow them to start work on the inside of I-25.

“They’ll see a little bit of the change in the traffic pattern, some of the striping is going to change, and direct them. It won’t be a massive change, the patterns are going to be pretty much the same, but they’re going to be driving in new lanes on newly constructed pavement and over the new bridges,” said Program Manager Michael Worrall, consultant for NMDOT…
