ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Sandia National Laboratories confirmed Friday that it will reduce its workforce in order to cut back on spending.
The lab’s Corporate Communications Specialist Kenny Vigil said the lab developed a restructuring plan to reduce costs, which includes “limiting external hiring, facilitating internal placements based on individual skills and mission needs, and implementing a voluntary separation program, pending approval from the National Nuclear Security Administration.”

Overall, the lab plans to reduce its workforce of nearly 17,000 employees by 1-3% by early fall, which equates to an estimated reduction of 170-510 employees.
