Albuquerque teen to remain in juvenile facility for shooting at Coors and Central

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — The teen who killed a woman as she tried to recover her stolen car will remain at a juvenile facility until he turns 21. Marcos Barela was 13 when he shot and killed Sydney Wilson in the summer of 2023. A jury found 14-year-old Marcos Barela guilty of second-degree murder earlier this year.

Wilson had tracked her stolen car to a Smith’s parking lot at Coors and Central and confronted the teens inside when Barela shot her. Because of his age, Barela can only be locked up for six years. If Barela was an adult, he would have faced up to 18 years in prison.
