Albuquerque mother works to reduce teen violence in honor of daughter

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s a disturbing trend law enforcement has noticed when summer comes around- more violent crimes are committed. This year, a parent who lost her child to gun violence is teaming up with public officials to offer teenagers a safe place to enjoy summer nights, in hopes of preventing more tragedies.

“We want to just bring back, put the phones down, get out there, [and] actually meet people face to face,” said Danielle Vigil, Founder of Aaliyah Vigil’s Legacy Foundation.

It’s all thanks to Danielle Vigil, an Albuquerque mother who’s looking to help teenagers find safer alternatives to clubs and house parties, after losing her daughter Aaliyah during a shooting at a party in 2022.
