An inside look at AFR’s enhanced bosque patrol

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque Fire Rescue’s wildland crews will be working overtime this Fourth of July weekend to protect the city’s Rio Grande bosque.

Lately, there have been back-to-back fires and then an arrest for alleged arson. AFR is playing offense to the problem and starting Level 2 patrols. Four wildland units will patrol the open spaces, instead of the normal two, a week early this year.
