Man sentenced for 2024 murder in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who admitted to murdering a man outside of a homeless shelter last year will spend less than a decade behind bars. In February 2024, Jose Gracia leaped out of a wheelchair, just outside of the Hope Village in northwest Albuquerque, and beat Mark Lavine. Lavine was on life support for two weeks before he died from his injuries.

Gracia pled guilty to a single count of second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 8.5 years behind bars.
